Marty Krofft, the creative mind behind beloved children’s shows such as “HR Pufnstuf” and “Land of the Lost,” has passed away at the age of 85.
Krofft, who was known for his imaginative and colorful productions, died peacefully at his home in Los Angeles on Friday, surrounded by his family.
Born in Montreal, Canada in 1937, Krofft and his brother Sid began their entertainment career as puppeteers in the 1950s. They eventually moved to Hollywood and gained success in the 1960s with their puppet show “Les Poupées de Paris.”
In the 1970s, the Krofft brothers became a household name with their live-action children’s shows, which featured a mix of puppets, animation, and live actors. “HR Pufnstuf,” which aired from 1969 to 1971, followed the adventures of a boy named Jimmy and his magical dragon friend in a fantasy world. The show became a cult classic and spawned a feature film in 1970.
Their other popular show, “Land of the Lost,” aired from 1974 to 1976 and followed a family’s adventures in a prehistoric world. The show was known for its groundbreaking special effects and won two Emmy Awards.
Krofft’s creative vision and unique storytelling style captured the hearts of children and adults alike. His shows were known for their whimsical and psychedelic elements, and they often tackled important themes such as friendship, acceptance, and imagination.
In addition to his work in children’s television, Krofft also produced live shows and attractions, including the popular “The World of Sid and Marty Krofft” at Six Flags theme parks.
