Saskatoon sees first person enter race for mayor

Saskatoon, SK – The race for mayor in Saskatoon has officially begun, with the first person entering the race. This announcement comes as no surprise, as the current mayor, Charlie Clark, has already announced that he will not be seeking re-election.

The first candidate to enter the race is Rob Norris, a former Saskatchewan Party MLA and cabinet minister. Norris made the announcement on Monday, stating that he believes Saskatoon needs a new direction and fresh leadership.

In his announcement, Norris highlighted his experience in both the public and private sectors, as well as his commitment to addressing issues such as crime, infrastructure, and economic development. He also emphasized the importance of working collaboratively with all levels of government to ensure the city’s success.

Norris is no stranger to politics, having served as an MLA for Saskatoon Greystone from 2007 to 2016. During his time in office, he held various cabinet positions, including Minister of Advanced Education, Employment and Immigration, and Minister of Advanced Education.

His decision to run for mayor has already garnered support from some prominent figures in the community, including former mayor Don Atchison and current city councillor Darren Hill.

However, Norris is not the only candidate expected to enter the race. Other potential candidates include current city councillors, as well as community leaders and activists.

The municipal election is set to take place on November 9, 2020, and the deadline for candidates to file their nomination papers is September 21. This means there is still plenty of time for other potential candidates to enter the race.

As the race for mayor heats up, it will be interesting to see who else throws their hat into the ring and what issues they will prioritize in their campaigns. One thing is for sure, Saskatoon residents can expect a competitive and exciting election season ahead.
