Stolen cars: CBSA, Quebec and Ontario police to detail large-scope investigation in Montreal

A joint investigation between the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and police in Quebec and Ontario has uncovered a large-scale operation involving stolen cars in Montreal.

According to authorities, the investigation began in 2019 when the CBSA intercepted a shipment of stolen vehicles at the Port of Montreal. This led to a collaboration with the Quebec Provincial Police (QPP) and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) to further investigate the matter.

During the course of the investigation, it was discovered that the stolen vehicles were being shipped to Montreal from various locations in Ontario. The vehicles were then being sold to unsuspecting buyers in Quebec, with fraudulent documents being used to conceal their true origins.

In total, 11 individuals have been arrested and charged with various offenses, including possession of stolen property, fraud, and conspiracy. The investigation also resulted in the recovery of 20 stolen vehicles, with an estimated value of over $1 million.

Authorities believe that this operation was part of a larger criminal network involved in the trafficking of stolen vehicles across Canada and potentially internationally. The investigation is ongoing, and more arrests and charges are expected.

The CBSA and police are reminding the public to be cautious when purchasing used vehicles and to always verify the authenticity of the documents and the vehicle’s history before making a purchase.

This joint investigation serves as a testament to the effectiveness of collaboration between law enforcement agencies in combating organized crime. The CBSA and police in Quebec and Ontario are committed to working together to ensure the safety and security of our communities.

As the investigation continues, the authorities urge anyone with information related to this case to come forward and contact the CBSA or their local police department. Together, we can help put an end to these criminal activities and bring justice to those involved.
