Fire engulfs under-construction Arbour Lake condo building

A massive fire broke out at an under-construction condo building in Arbour Lake on Monday evening, causing extensive damage and sending thick plumes of smoke into the sky.

The blaze, which started around 6:30 p.m., quickly engulfed the four-storey building located at 100 Arbour Lake Road NW. Firefighters from multiple stations were called to the scene to battle the flames.

According to the Calgary Fire Department, the fire was deemed a three-alarm blaze, meaning it required a significant amount of resources to contain. In total, 30 firefighters and 10 trucks were dispatched to the scene.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but officials say it appears to have started on the top floor of the building. No injuries have been reported at this time.

Witnesses reported seeing flames shooting out of the building and thick black smoke billowing into the sky. Some residents in the area were evacuated as a precaution, but were later allowed to return to their homes.

The intense heat from the fire caused the building’s roof to collapse, making it difficult for firefighters to access the flames. Crews were forced to use aerial ladder trucks to pour water onto the building from above.

As of Tuesday morning, the fire was still burning, but was under control. Firefighters remained on the scene to monitor hot spots and ensure the fire did not reignite.

The building, which was still under construction, sustained significant damage and is now considered a total loss. The estimated cost of the damage has not yet been determined.

The Calgary Fire Department is reminding the public to always exercise caution when dealing with fire, and to immediately call 911 in case of an emergency.
