Brantford, ON – The city of Brantford has named Michael Andlauer, owner of the Hamilton Bulldogs hockey team, as the 2020 Sportsperson of the Year. This prestigious award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the local sports community.
Andlauer, a successful businessman and philanthropist, has been a key figure in the Brantford sports scene for many years. He purchased the Hamilton Bulldogs in 2015 and relocated the team to Brantford in 2018, bringing professional hockey back to the city after a 30-year absence.
Under Andlauer’s ownership, the Bulldogs have become a beloved and successful team in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). In their first season in Brantford, the Bulldogs made it to the OHL playoffs and have continued to be a top contender in the league.
But Andlauer’s contributions to the community go beyond just hockey. He has also been a generous supporter of local charities and organizations, including the Brantford Food Bank and the Brantford Minor Hockey Association.
In addition, Andlauer has been a strong advocate for youth sports in Brantford. He has invested in the development of local hockey facilities and has provided opportunities for young athletes to pursue their dreams.
Mayor Kevin Davis praised Andlauer for his dedication to the city and its sports community, stating, “Michael Andlauer has not only brought professional hockey back to Brantford, but he has also shown a deep commitment to giving back to the community. He is a true role model for our youth and a deserving recipient of this award.”
Andlauer expressed his gratitude for the recognition, saying, “I am honored to receive this award from the city of Brantford. The Sportsperson of the Year award will be presented to Andlauer at the Brantford Sports Council’s annual banquet on March 28th. This event celebrates the achievements of local athletes, coaches, and volunteers and recognizes the important role that sports play in the city of Brantford.
