A woman has been taken to the hospital following a residential fire in Irricana early Saturday morning.
According to authorities, the fire broke out at a home on 1st Avenue around 3:30 a.m. Firefighters from the Irricana and Beiseker fire departments responded to the scene and were able to quickly extinguish the flames.
The woman, who has not been identified, was found inside the home and was transported to hospital by EMS. Her condition is currently unknown.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but officials say it appears to have started in the kitchen. The extent of the damage to the home is also unknown at this time.
Residents in the area were temporarily evacuated as a precaution, but have since been allowed to return to their homes.
The incident serves as a reminder for everyone to ensure their homes are equipped with working smoke detectors and to have an escape plan in case of a fire.
