The Alberta government has announced a new investment in high school students, aiming to provide them with more opportunities for success.
According to the government, this investment will focus on three key areas: career and technology studies, dual credit programs, and work-integrated learning.
Career and technology studies (CTS) will receive a boost of $10 million, allowing high school students to gain hands-on experience in various industries such as construction, health care, and information technology. Dual credit programs, which allow students to earn both high school and post-secondary credits simultaneously, will also receive a significant investment of $20 million. This will give students a head start in their post-secondary education and reduce the financial burden of pursuing higher education.
Lastly, the government will invest $10 million in work-integrated learning, which includes apprenticeships, internships, and co-op placements. This will give students the opportunity to gain real-world experience and develop essential skills that will make them more employable after graduation.
Education Minister Adriana LaGrange believes that this investment will not only benefit students but also the province’s economy. “By investing in our students, we are investing in the future of Alberta,” she stated.
