British Columbia has seen a slight increase in COVID-19 hospitalizations as the province launches its latest vaccine campaign. According to the latest data, there are currently 249 people hospitalized with the virus, up from 239 the day before.
This rise in hospitalizations comes as the province begins its “Get Vaccinated” campaign, which aims to encourage more people to get vaccinated against COVID-19. The campaign includes a new website and a series of advertisements featuring real people who have been impacted by the virus.
Health officials are urging British Columbians to take advantage of the available vaccines, as they are the best defense against the virus. “Vaccines are our ticket out of this pandemic,” said Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry.
The province has administered over 400,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine so far, with over 87,000 people receiving their second dose. However, there are still concerns about vaccine hesitancy and the spread of new variants of the virus.
“We need to continue to be vigilant and follow public health measures, even as we roll out the vaccine,” said Health Minister Adrian Dix. “We cannot let our guard down.”
The latest vaccine campaign also comes as the province prepares to enter Phase 2 of its immunization plan, which will include essential workers, seniors, and Indigenous communities. The goal is to have everyone in the province who wants a vaccine to receive one by the end of September.
In the meantime, health officials are reminding everyone to continue following public health guidelines, including wearing masks, practicing physical distancing, and avoiding non-essential travel.
As the province works towards its goal of widespread vaccination, it is crucial for everyone to do their part in stopping the spread of COVID-19. Let’s all do our part to protect ourselves and our communities.
