Charges have been laid after a disturbing incident involving the use of drones to deliver drugs to an Alberta prison. The incident, which occurred at the Drumheller Institution, has raised concerns about the safety and security of correctional facilities.
According to authorities, the incident took place on February 22nd, when a drone was spotted flying over the prison walls. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the drone was carrying a package containing drugs. The package was successfully delivered to an inmate before the drone was intercepted by prison staff.
As a result of the incident, two individuals have been charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking. The accused, 33-year-old Christopher Paul Gill and 35-year-old Matthew James Gill, are both from Calgary and are scheduled to appear in court on April 6th.
This is not the first time that drones have been used to smuggle contraband into prisons. In fact, it has become a growing concern for correctional facilities across the country. In 2019, a similar incident occurred at the same prison, where a drone was used to deliver drugs to an inmate.
The use of drones to deliver drugs poses a serious threat to the safety and security of correctional facilities. Not only does it put inmates at risk, but it also endangers the lives of prison staff and the surrounding community. It is a blatant disregard for the law and will not be tolerated.
