Brantford native, Alex Lardis, has officially signed with the Chicago Wolves, the American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the Chicago Blackhawks.

The 22-year-old defenseman has been playing for the University of Michigan for the past four years, where he recorded 14 points in 129 games. Lardis also served as an alternate captain for the Wolverines during his senior year.

Lardis was originally drafted by the Blackhawks in the fifth round of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. He attended their development camp in 2019 and impressed the coaching staff with his strong skating and defensive abilities.

After completing his college career, Lardis had multiple offers from AHL teams, but ultimately chose to sign with the Wolves due to their strong reputation for developing players for the NHL.

“I’m excited to join the Wolves organization and continue my development as a player,” Lardis said in a statement. “I’m grateful for the opportunity and can’t wait to get started.”

Wolves general manager, Wendell Young, expressed his excitement for Lardis joining the team, stating, “We are thrilled to add Alex to our roster. He is a talented defenseman with a great work ethic and we believe he will be a valuable asset to our team.”

Lardis will join the Wolves for their training camp in September and will have the opportunity to compete for a spot on the team’s roster for the upcoming season.

This signing is a significant step for Lardis in his hockey career and showcases the talent and potential he possesses. Brantford can be proud to have another hometown player making waves in the professional hockey world.
