A North Bay man is facing multiple charges after a tense standoff incident on Cassells Street.
According to police, the incident began on Monday afternoon when they received a call about a man causing a disturbance at a residence on Cassells Street. When officers arrived at the scene, the man barricaded himself inside the home and refused to come out.
The North Bay Police Service Emergency Response Team (ERT) was called in to assist with the situation. Negotiators were also brought in to communicate with the man and attempt to peacefully resolve the standoff.
After several hours of negotiations, the man surrendered to police and was taken into custody without incident. No injuries were reported during the incident.
The 36-year-old man is now facing charges of assault, mischief, and uttering threats. He is currently being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Police have not released the man’s name in order to protect the identity of the victim involved in the incident.
Residents in the area were advised to stay indoors and avoid the area during the standoff. The road was closed off to traffic for several hours but has since been reopened.
