Suspect shot after Toronto police officer stabbed in city's west end

A suspect was shot by Toronto police after an officer was stabbed in the city’s west end on Wednesday evening.

According to police, the incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. near the intersection of Dundas Street West and Lansdowne Avenue. The officer was responding to a call about a man causing a disturbance in the area.

Upon arrival, the officer attempted to speak with the suspect, but he suddenly pulled out a knife and stabbed the officer. The officer then fired their weapon, striking the suspect.

The officer was taken to a nearby hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect was also transported to a hospital with serious injuries.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has been called in to investigate the incident. The SIU is an independent agency that investigates incidents involving police that result in serious injury or death.
