Former Sask. massage therapist who sexually assaulted clients has day parole revoked

A former massage therapist in Saskatchewan has had his day parole revoked after being found guilty of sexually assaulting multiple clients.

The decision was made by the Parole Board of Canada, who determined that the offender, who cannot be named due to a publication ban, had violated the conditions of his day parole.

The former massage therapist was originally sentenced to six years in prison in 2018 after being found guilty of sexually assaulting nine clients between 2002 and 2015. He was granted day parole in October 2020, with strict conditions including a ban on providing massage therapy services and a requirement to attend psychological counselling.

However, the Parole Board of Canada found that the offender had breached these conditions by providing massage therapy services to a client in January 2021. The board also noted that the offender had not been fully transparent about his employment and had not disclosed all of his interactions with female clients.

In their decision, the board stated that the offender’s actions showed a lack of insight and a disregard for the safety of others. They also noted that the offender had not completed any of the recommended psychological counselling and had not taken responsibility for his actions.

The decision to revoke the offender’s day parole was made in the interest of public safety and to hold the offender accountable for his actions. The board also stated that the offender’s behaviour was a violation of the trust placed in him as a massage therapist and that he had caused significant harm to his victims.

The offender will now be returned to a federal institution to serve the remainder of his sentence. The Parole Board of Canada will continue to monitor his progress and may consider granting him day parole again in the future if he demonstrates significant progress and a reduced risk to the community.

This decision serves as a reminder that those who commit sexual offences will be held accountable for their actions and that the safety of the public is of utmost importance.
