A 73-year-old man has been sentenced to prison after attacking three women with a machete in a disturbing and violent incident.
The man, whose name has not been released, was found guilty of three counts of assault with a weapon and one count of possession of a dangerous weapon. The attacks took place in Brantford, Ontario, and left the victims with serious injuries.
According to the court, the man approached the first victim, a 45-year-old woman, on the street and began swinging the machete at her. She was able to defend herself and escape with minor injuries.
The second victim, a 60-year-old woman, was attacked in her own home. The man broke into her house and attacked her with the machete, causing severe injuries to her head and arms.
The third victim, a 55-year-old woman, was also attacked in her home. She was able to fight off the man and call for help, but not before sustaining serious injuries to her hands and arms.
During the trial, the man claimed that he was suffering from a mental illness and did not remember the attacks. However, the court found him to be fully aware of his actions and deemed him a danger to society.
In his sentencing, the judge stated that the man’s actions were “unforgivable” and that he showed no remorse for his actions. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison, with no chance of parole for five years.
The victims, who have chosen to remain anonymous, expressed relief and closure after the sentencing. They also urged others to be aware of their surroundings and to report any suspicious behavior.
This disturbing incident serves as a reminder of the importance of mental health awareness and the need for stricter laws to protect the safety of individuals in our communities. The victims have shown incredible strength and resilience in the face of such a traumatic event, and we hope that they can find peace and healing in the aftermath of this ordeal.
