Morley man in serious condition, facing multiple charges after Tuesday shooting involving RCMP near Cochrane

A man from Morley is currently in serious condition and facing multiple charges after a shooting incident involving the RCMP near Cochrane on Tuesday.

According to the RCMP, the incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. when officers responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle in the area of Highway 1A and Highway 22. When they arrived, they found a man in a vehicle who was armed with a firearm.

The officers attempted to negotiate with the man, but he refused to comply with their commands. As a result, the RCMP fired their weapons, striking the man. He was then taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has been called in to investigate the incident. They will be looking into the actions of the RCMP officers and whether they followed proper protocol.

The man, who has not been identified, is facing multiple charges including possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a firearm while prohibited, and resisting arrest.

The RCMP have also confirmed that the man was known to them and had outstanding warrants for his arrest.

The incident has caused a section of Highway 1A to be closed for several hours while the investigation takes place. The road has since been reopened.

The RCMP have stated that they are committed to ensuring the safety of the public and will continue to work with ASIRT to provide updates on the investigation.
