No. 1 CFL draft pick aims to make Elks roster this season

The CFL’s No. 1 draft pick has his sights set on making the roster for the Edmonton Elks this season.

After being selected first overall in the 2021 CFL Draft, offensive lineman, and University of Alberta graduate, Tomas Jack-Kurdyla is determined to prove himself on the field.

The 6-foot-3, 300-pound athlete has been working hard to prepare for the upcoming season, both physically and mentally. Jack-Kurdyla has been training with former CFL player and current Elks offensive line coach, Kevin Lefsrud, to improve his skills and adapt to the professional level of play.

Despite the challenges of transitioning from university football to the CFL, Jack-Kurdyla is confident in his abilities and is eager to contribute to the Elks’ success.

“I’m just excited to get out there and show what I can do,” he said in an interview with CTV News Edmonton.

The 23-year-old has already impressed the Elks’ coaching staff with his work ethic and determination. Head coach Jaime Elizondo praised Jack-Kurdyla’s “great attitude” and “high football IQ.”

“He’s a guy that’s going to come in and compete,” Elizondo said.

Jack-Kurdyla’s journey to the CFL has been a long one, with his football career beginning in high school and continuing through his time at the University of Alberta. He credits his family and coaches for their support and guidance along the way.

Now, as he prepares to take the field with the Elks, Jack-Kurdyla is grateful for the opportunity and is focused on making the most of it.

“I’m just going to keep working hard and try to earn a spot on the roster,” he said.

The Edmonton Elks’ training camp is set to begin in July, and Jack-Kurdyla is ready to showcase his skills and compete for a spot on the team. With his determination and talent, he is sure to make an impact on the field and contribute to the Elks’ success this season.
