Kelowna Mayor Clarifies RDCO Appointments
In response to recent speculation and criticism, Kelowna Mayor Colin Basran has clarified the process behind the Regional District of Central Okanagan (RDCO) appointments.
In a statement released on Monday, Mayor Basran emphasized that the appointments were planned in advance and were not a form of punishment for any particular individual or group.
The RDCO is a regional government that serves the Central Okanagan area, including the City of Kelowna. It is responsible for providing services such as water and sewer, emergency management, and regional planning.
According to Mayor Basran, the appointments were made in accordance with the RDCO’s bylaws, which state that the City of Kelowna is entitled to appoint three members to the RDCO board. These appointments are made every four years, coinciding with the municipal election cycle.
The mayor also clarified that the appointments were not made in response to any specific issues or concerns within the RDCO. He stated that the City of Kelowna has a strong working relationship with the RDCO and that the appointments were made to ensure continued collaboration and representation on the board.
Mayor Basran also addressed concerns about the timing of the appointments, which were made shortly after the RDCO’s controversial decision to approve a development in the South Mission area. He stated that the appointments were planned well in advance and were not influenced by any recent events.
The mayor concluded his statement by reaffirming the City of Kelowna’s commitment to working with the RDCO and other regional partners to address important issues and provide essential services to the community.
In light of Mayor Basran’s clarification, it is clear that the RDCO appointments were made in accordance with established procedures and were not intended as a form of punishment. The City of Kelowna remains dedicated to maintaining a strong and collaborative relationship with the RDCO for the betterment of the community.
