A garbage truck tipped over near the entrance of the Kelowna landfill, causing a major disruption in the area.
According to witnesses, the incident occurred around 10:30 am on Tuesday morning. The truck, which was carrying a full load of waste, appeared to have lost control while navigating a sharp turn near the entrance of the landfill.
Emergency services were immediately called to the scene, and the area was quickly cordoned off to ensure the safety of the public. The driver of the truck was able to escape without any injuries, but the truck itself sustained significant damage.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation, but it is believed that the weight of the garbage may have contributed to the truck’s loss of control. The landfill staff are working to clear the area and remove the truck, but it is expected to take several hours.
The incident has caused a major delay for those trying to access the landfill, as well as for the garbage collection services in the area. Residents are advised to use alternative routes and to expect delays in their waste collection.
This is not the first time a garbage truck has tipped over near the entrance of the Kelowna landfill. In 2019, a similar incident occurred, causing significant traffic disruptions and delays.
The landfill staff are reminding drivers to exercise caution when navigating the area, especially when carrying heavy loads. They also urge residents to properly secure their waste before disposing of it to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.
As the investigation into the cause of the accident continues, the landfill staff are working diligently to clear the area and resume normal operations. We will continue to provide updates on the situation as more information becomes available.
In the meantime, we urge the public to be patient and to follow the instructions of the landfill staff to ensure the safety of everyone involved. Let us all work together to prevent such accidents from happening in the future.
