The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) has announced plans to increase service on 24 bus routes starting this Sunday.
According to the TTC, the decision to boost service comes in response to growing demand and ridership on these routes. The changes will aim to improve reliability and reduce overcrowding for commuters.
The affected routes include 7 Bathurst, 11 Bayview, 16 McCowan, 25 Don Mills, 29 Dufferin, 35 Jane, 36 Finch West, 39 Finch East, 41 Keele, 43 Kennedy, 44 Kipling South, 45 Kipling, 46 Martin Grove, 54 Lawrence East, 60 Steeles West, 63 Ossington, 68 Warden, 72 Pape, 73 Royal York, 85 Sheppard East, 86 Scarborough, 96 Wilson, 102 Markham Road, and 116 Morningside.
The TTC has also announced that it will be adding more buses to the 501 Queen and 504 King streetcar routes during peak hours to address overcrowding concerns.
In addition to increasing service, the TTC is also implementing a new “ten-minute network” plan, which aims to have buses and streetcars arrive at stops every ten minutes or less during peak hours.
TTC CEO Rick Leary stated that these changes are part of the commission’s ongoing efforts to improve service and meet the needs of its riders. He also acknowledged the challenges faced by the TTC during the pandemic and thanked frontline workers for their dedication and hard work.
The TTC is reminding riders to continue following COVID-19 safety protocols, including wearing masks and practicing physical distancing while on board.
