Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have announced the results of a major investigation into child sexual exploitation. The investigation, which began in 2019, has led to the arrest of multiple individuals and the rescue of several victims.
According to OPP, the investigation focused on the online sexual exploitation of children and the production and distribution of child pornography. The investigation, dubbed “Project P” involved multiple police units and agencies, including the OPP Child Sexual Exploitation Unit, the OPP Technological Crime Unit, and the Canadian Centre for Child Protection.
During the course of the investigation, police executed search warrants at multiple locations across Ontario, resulting in the seizure of electronic devices and the arrest of 12 individuals. These individuals are facing a total of 78 charges, including sexual assault, making and distributing child pornography, and luring a child.
In addition to the arrests, the investigation also led to the rescue of four victims, who are now receiving support and assistance from victim services. OPP Commissioner Thomas Carrique commended the hard work and dedication of all those involved in the investigation, stating, “The exploitation of children is a heinous crime and we will continue to work tirelessly to protect our most vulnerable citizens.”
The OPP also emphasized the importance of educating parents and caregivers about the dangers of online sexual exploitation and the steps they can take to protect their children. They urge anyone with information about child sexual exploitation to contact their local police or Crime Stoppers.
The results of this investigation serve as a reminder of the ongoing threat of child sexual exploitation and the need for continued efforts to combat it. The OPP is committed to working with their partners to protect children and bring those responsible for these crimes to justice.
