Toronto FC emerged victorious in a 3-0 win against semi-professional team CS Saint-Laurent in the Canadian Championship on Wednesday night.
The game, which took place at the BMO Field in Toronto, saw Toronto FC dominate from the start, with a strong offensive performance and solid defense.
The first goal of the game came in the 25th minute, when Toronto FC’s Ayo Akinola scored off a cross from teammate Richie Laryea. This was followed by another goal in the 38th minute, with midfielder Jonathan Osorio finding the back of the net after a pass from Alejandro Pozuelo.
Despite a valiant effort from CS Saint-Laurent, Toronto FC continued to dominate in the second half. In the 68th minute, Pozuelo scored the third and final goal of the game, securing the win for Toronto FC.
This victory marks Toronto FC’s fourth consecutive win in the Canadian Championship, and they will now move on to face the winner of the match between York United FC and the Halifax Wanderers in the next round.
Toronto FC head coach Chris Armas praised his team’s performance, stating, “We came out with a lot of energy and executed our game plan well. It’s always great to see our players step up and deliver on the field.”
CS Saint-Laurent coach, Patrick Leduc, also commended Toronto FC, saying, “They are a top team and we knew it would be a tough match. Our players gave it their all and we are proud of their effort.”
The Canadian Championship, which is Canada’s premier professional soccer tournament, features teams from the Canadian Premier League, Major League Soccer, and the United Soccer League. The winner of the tournament will earn a spot in the CONCACAF Champions League.
Toronto FC will now turn their focus to their upcoming MLS match against the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday, while CS Saint-Laurent will continue their season in the Première Ligue de Soccer du Québec.
