Vancouver police cleared of wrongdoing after woman alleges injury on downtown patio

After a thorough investigation, the Vancouver Police Department has been cleared of any wrongdoing in the case of a woman who alleged she was injured on a downtown patio.

The incident occurred on March 27, when the woman claimed she was pushed by a police officer while trying to enter a restaurant on Granville Street. She also alleged that she sustained injuries to her arm and shoulder as a result of the incident.

However, after reviewing surveillance footage and conducting interviews with witnesses, the Independent Investigations Office (IIO) has determined that the police officer did not use excessive force and that the woman’s injuries were not caused by the officer’s actions.

In a statement released by the IIO, Chief Civilian Director Ronald J. MacDonald stated, “After a thorough and independent investigation, we have found no evidence to support the woman’s allegations of excessive force by the police officer. The evidence clearly shows that the officer acted within the scope of his duties and did not use any unnecessary force.”

The IIO also noted that the woman’s injuries were likely sustained prior to her interaction with the police officer, as there was no evidence of any physical contact between them.

The Vancouver Police Department has welcomed the findings of the investigation and reiterated their commitment to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and accountability.

“We are pleased that the IIO has concluded their investigation and found no evidence of wrongdoing by our officer,” said Sergeant Steve Addison, spokesperson for the Vancouver Police Department. “We take all allegations of excessive force seriously and are committed to working with the IIO to ensure a thorough and impartial investigation.”

The IIO is an independent civilian oversight agency that investigates all incidents involving police officers in British Columbia that result in serious harm or death. Their findings are then forwarded to the Crown for review and consideration of charges.

In this case, the IIO has determined that there is no basis for any charges to be laid against the police officer involved. The woman’s allegations have been thoroughly investigated and found to be unsubstantiated.

The Vancouver Police Department and the IIO have both emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in maintaining public trust and confidence in the police force. They have assured the public that all allegations of excessive force will continue to be thoroughly investigated and addressed in a timely and impartial manner.
