4th Indian national charged in murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar makes first court appearance

A fourth Indian national has been charged in connection with the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, and has made their first court appearance.

The accused, who cannot be named due to a publication ban, appeared in a Vancouver courtroom on Monday. They have been charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

Nijjar, a 32-year-old man from Surrey, was found dead in a vehicle in Richmond in May 2020. Three other Indian nationals have already been charged in connection with his death.

The accused appeared in court via video conference from a detention centre, and their lawyer requested an adjournment to review the case. The next court appearance is scheduled for April 26.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has not released any further details about the case, but has confirmed that the accused is a fourth suspect in the murder of Nijjar.

The investigation into Nijjar’s death has been ongoing for almost a year, and has involved cooperation between Canadian and Indian authorities.

The accused remains in custody and their identity will not be revealed until the publication ban is lifted.

This latest development in the case has brought some closure to Nijjar’s family and friends, who have been waiting for justice to be served.

The court proceedings will continue as the accused awaits trial, and the public will be updated as more information becomes available.
