The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have released more details about the suspect in the sexual assault case that occurred in Fergus, Ontario.
According to the OPP, the suspect has been identified as 32-year-old John Smith, a resident of Fergus. He has been charged with sexual assault, forcible confinement, and uttering threats.
The incident took place on Monday, June 14, at a residence in Fergus. The victim, a 25-year-old woman, reported the assault to the police and provided a description of the suspect.
After an investigation, the OPP were able to identify and locate Smith, who was arrested on Wednesday, June 16. He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, June 18.
The OPP have also confirmed that Smith and the victim were known to each other and that this was not a random act of violence.
