Toronto Police are appealing to the public for any information regarding a suspected hate-motivated assault that occurred in downtown Toronto.
According to authorities, the incident took place on Saturday, April 3rd, at around 9:30 pm near the intersection of Yonge and Dundas streets. A 29-year-old man was walking in the area when he was approached by a group of individuals who allegedly made derogatory comments towards him based on his sexual orientation.
The victim reported that he was then physically assaulted by the group, resulting in injuries that required medical attention. He was taken to a nearby hospital and has since been released.
Police have released a description of the suspects, who are believed to be in their late teens or early twenties. One of the individuals is described as a white male with a medium build, wearing a black hoodie and black pants. The other two suspects are described as white males with slim builds, wearing dark clothing.
Investigators are treating this incident as a hate-motivated assault and are urging anyone with information to come forward. They are also asking for any witnesses who may have been in the area at the time of the assault to contact them.
In a statement, Detective Constable Andrew Kozlowski emphasized the importance of speaking out against hate-motivated crimes. “We want to remind the public that hate-motivated incidents will not be tolerated in our city,” he said. “We are committed to holding those responsible accountable for their actions.”
