Grimsby Shooting Incident Leads to Multiple Weapon Charges

On May 18, 2024 at approximately 6:00pm, 8 District (Grimsby/Lincoln/West Lincoln) uniform officers responded to reports of a shooting at a home in the area of Livingston Avenue and Roberts Road in Grimsby.  

Investigation revealed an adult male was brought to an area hospital for injuries consistent with having been shot.  He was released a short time later with non-life-threatening injuries. 

Further investigation then revealed that the injuries suffered were the result of an accidental misfire. 

On May 19, 8 District detectives along with the Forensic Services Unit conducted a residential search with judicial authorization and retrieved several weapons from the property.  

There is no threat to public safety and there are no outstanding suspects. 

Justin Melo (37 years old) of Grimsby was arrested and charged with the following offences:  Careless use of a firearm  Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition  Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized  Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order

Melo was remanded into custody following a bail hearing that took place on May 19, 2024, at the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse located at 59 Church Street in the City of St. Catharines.
