Ajax, ON – Police are currently on the hunt for a suspect after a shooting took place in broad daylight in Ajax on Monday afternoon.
According to authorities, the incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. in the area of Harwood Avenue South and Kingston Road. Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots and seeing a man fleeing the scene on foot.
The victim, a 25-year-old man, was found with multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to a nearby hospital in serious condition. He is currently undergoing treatment and his identity has not been released.
Police have launched a search for the suspect, who is described as a black male in his 20s, approximately 6 feet tall with a slim build. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie and dark pants.
The area has been cordoned off as officers continue to investigate the scene. They are urging anyone with information or who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.
“We are appealing to the public for any information that may assist us in identifying and locating the suspect,” said Sgt. George Tudos of Durham Regional Police.
Residents in the area have expressed shock and concern over the shooting, as it occurred in a busy and typically peaceful neighborhood.
“I’ve lived here for over 20 years and I’ve never seen anything like this happen,” said one resident.
Police are reminding the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to authorities. They are also asking for any surveillance footage from the area that may have captured the incident.
