The city of Winnipeg is reaching out to the Point Douglas community for their input on the future of the neighborhood. The call for community involvement comes as the city prepares to update the Point Douglas Neighbourhood Plan, which was last revised in 2005.
The Point Douglas Neighbourhood Plan is a document that outlines the long-term vision for the area and guides future development and growth. It covers a wide range of topics, including land use, transportation, housing, and community services.
According to the city, the plan is due for an update to reflect the changes that have occurred in the neighborhood over the past 16 years. This includes the addition of new developments, changes in demographics, and shifts in community needs.
To ensure that the updated plan accurately reflects the community’s vision for the future, the city is seeking input from residents, business owners, and community organizations. This input will be used to shape the plan and guide decision-making for the neighborhood.
The city has launched an online survey to gather feedback from the community. The survey covers topics such as housing, transportation, and community services, and takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. In addition to the survey, the city will also be hosting virtual public engagement sessions in the coming weeks.
Councillor Vivian Santos, who represents the Point Douglas ward, emphasized the importance of community involvement in the planning process. “The Point Douglas community is a vibrant and diverse neighborhood, and it’s crucial that we hear from the people who live and work here as we plan for the future,” she said.
The city is encouraging all members of the Point Douglas community to participate in the survey and attend the virtual engagement sessions. The deadline to complete the survey is May 31, 2021.
The updated Point Douglas Neighbourhood Plan is expected to be completed by the end of 2021. It will serve as a roadmap for the neighborhood’s growth and development for the next decade and beyond.
