During the month of May, detectives from the 2 District Street Crime Unit with the Niagara Regional Police Service began an investigation into the trafficking of controlled substances in Thorold.
On May 29, 2024, a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant was authored for a vehicle and a residence in Thorold.
As a result of the search warrants police located and seized a loaded semi-automatic Glock handgun with an extended magazine, 396.2 grams of suspected Fentanyl (value $28,000) , 201 grams of cocaine (value $15,000), 173 Dilaudid pills ($865), a box of 45 caliber bullets, counterfeit currency, counterfeit driver’s licenses, over $10,000 in Canadian Currency and 256 in American currency.
Detectives were able to identify the suspect responsible and he was placed under arrest.
Boadi SARKODIE (36 years old) of Thorold, was arrested and charged with the following offences:
Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking fentanyl Possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine Possession for the purpose of trafficking dilaudid Possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000 Possession of prohibited firearm/ammunition when prohibited Possession of a prohibited firearm while not holding a licence Careless storage Unauthorized possession of a firearm in a vehicle possession of counterfeit money Possession of identity documents
SARKODIE was held in custody awaiting a bail hearing that is expected to take place on May 30, 2024 at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse located at 59 Church Street in the City of St. Catharine’s.
