Winnipeg’s annual fundraising event, Challenge for Life, has once again exceeded expectations and set a new record for donations. This year, the event raised over $1.5 million for cancer research and support programs.
The 13th edition of Challenge for Life took place on June 8th, with participants walking or running a total of 20 kilometers to raise money for the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation. The event also included a virtual option for those who were unable to attend in person.
According to organizers, this year’s event saw a significant increase in both participants and donations compared to previous years. Over 1,500 people took part in the challenge, with many sharing their personal stories and reasons for supporting the cause.
One of the top fundraisers, Lisa, shared her experience of losing her mother to cancer and how participating in Challenge for Life has helped her cope with the loss. “It’s a way for me to honor my mom’s memory and make a difference in the fight against cancer,” she said.
The funds raised from Challenge for Life will go towards supporting cancer research, clinical trials, and patient care programs at CancerCare Manitoba. The foundation also provides financial assistance to patients and their families, as well as funding for equipment and technology.
In addition to the physical challenge, the event also featured a virtual celebration with live music, inspiring speeches, and a tribute to those who have been affected by cancer.
