Two men have been charged in connection with five linked shootings in Peel Region that resulted in the deaths of three individuals.
According to Peel Regional Police, the shootings occurred between January and April of this year in the cities of Brampton and Mississauga. The victims, who were all men, were targeted in what police believe to be gang-related incidents.
The first shooting took place on January 31 in the area of Dixie Road and Bloor Street in Mississauga. A 20-year-old man was found with gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The second shooting occurred on February 8 in the area of McLaughlin Road and Ray Lawson Boulevard in Brampton. A 22-year-old man was found with gunshot wounds and was taken to a trauma centre where he later died.
On March 17, a 19-year-old man was shot and killed in the area of Airport Road and Countryside Drive in Brampton.
The fourth shooting took place on April 1 in the area of Dixie Road and Bovaird Drive in Brampton. A 20-year-old man was found with gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The fifth and final shooting occurred on April 9 in the area of Goreway Drive and Morning Star Drive in Mississauga. A 22-year-old man was found with gunshot wounds and was taken to a trauma centre where he later died.
After an extensive investigation, two men have been arrested and charged in connection with all five shootings. 21-year-old Jalen Perry and 20-year-old Tyronne Pierre have both been charged with three counts of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder.
Police have not released any information on a possible motive for the shootings, but they have confirmed that all five incidents are linked and are believed to be gang-related.
Peel Regional Police Chief Nishan Duraiappah expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and thanked the community for their cooperation in the investigation.
