After months of investigation, authorities have recovered over $1 million worth of stolen goods following a series of thefts at Shoppers Drug Mart locations in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
The investigation began in January when several Shoppers Drug Mart stores in the GTA reported a string of thefts. The suspects were targeting high-end beauty and personal care products, as well as electronics.
According to police, the thieves would enter the stores during business hours and use distraction techniques to steal the items. They would then quickly leave the store and flee in a waiting vehicle.
Thanks to surveillance footage and witness statements, investigators were able to identify and track down the suspects. On April 20th, a search warrant was executed at a residence in Toronto, where police found a large quantity of stolen goods.
In total, over 1,500 stolen items were recovered, including designer fragrances, cosmetics, and electronics. The estimated value of the recovered goods is over $1 million.
Four individuals have been arrested and charged in connection with the thefts. They are facing charges of theft over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime, and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.
Police are reminding the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to authorities. They also urge retailers to take precautions to prevent theft, such as installing security cameras and training staff to recognize and report suspicious behavior.
