‘It’s a game changer’: Calgary’s expanded BMO Centre is officially open

Calgary’s BMO Centre has officially opened its doors to the public, marking a significant milestone for the city’s event and convention industry.

The expansion of the BMO Centre, which began in 2018, has added over 500,000 square feet of event space, making it the largest convention center in Western Canada. This expansion has been highly anticipated, with many in the industry calling it a “game changer” for Calgary.

The new space includes a 100,000 square foot exhibition hall, a 20,000 square foot ballroom, and 47 meeting rooms, providing ample room for large-scale events and conventions. The BMO Centre also features state-of-the-art technology and sustainability features, making it a top choice for event planners.

According to Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi, the expansion of the BMO Centre is a testament to the city’s commitment to economic growth and diversification. He stated, “This expansion will not only bring in more visitors and revenue to our city, but it will also create jobs and opportunities for local businesses.”

The BMO Centre has already secured several major events, including the Global Petroleum Show and the Calgary Stampede, which will bring in thousands of visitors and generate millions of dollars for the local economy.

In addition to boosting the city’s economy, the BMO Centre expansion is also expected to have a positive impact on the community. The Calgary Stampede Foundation has committed to investing $3 million into the BMO Centre’s Indigenous Gathering Place, which will serve as a space for Indigenous communities to gather and share their culture.

The BMO Centre’s expansion has been a collaborative effort between the City of Calgary, the Calgary Stampede, and the Government of Alberta, with a total investment of $500 million. The project has also created over 1,800 jobs during construction and is expected to generate over $73 million in annual economic impact.

In a statement, Calgary Stampede CEO Dana Peers expressed his excitement for the BMO Centre’s opening, saying, “This expansion is a testament to the resilience and determination of our city and its people. We are proud to be a part of this project and look forward to welcoming the world to Calgary.”

With its expanded space and top-notch facilities, the BMO Centre is set to become a premier destination for events and conventions, solidifying Calgary’s position as a leading city in the industry.
