Canadian businessman Frank Stronach charged in sexual assault investigation

Canadian businessman Frank Stronach has been charged in a sexual assault investigation, according to authorities.

The 88-year-old founder of auto parts giant Magna International is facing one count of sexual assault, according to York Regional Police.

The alleged incident occurred in Aurora, Ontario in 2012, police said. The victim, who was 28 years old at the time, reported the incident to police in 2019.

Stronach has been released on bail and is scheduled to appear in court on May 13.

In a statement, Magna International said they were aware of the charges against Stronach and that he has no current involvement with the company.

Stronach, who was born in Austria, founded Magna International in 1957 and built it into one of the world’s largest auto parts suppliers. He stepped down as chairman in 2010 and retired from the company’s board in 2013.

This is not the first time Stronach has faced legal troubles. In 2018, he filed a $520 million lawsuit against his daughter, Belinda Stronach, accusing her of mismanaging the family fortune and cutting him out of decision-making at the company.

The lawsuit was settled out of court in 2019, with Belinda Stronach taking control of the family’s assets.

The sexual assault charge against Frank Stronach has not been proven in court. York Regional Police are asking anyone with information about the case to come forward.
