‘We haven’t completely stopped’: Update on search for climbers missing near Squamish, B.C.

The search for two missing climbers near Squamish, British Columbia is still ongoing, according to officials. Despite efforts to locate them, they have not been found yet.

The two climbers, identified as 25-year-old Rachel Bagnall and 26-year-old Jake Kermond, were reported missing on Sunday evening. They were last seen on Saturday morning, heading towards the Stawamus Chief, a popular climbing spot in the area.

Search and rescue teams, along with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), have been actively searching for the missing climbers since Sunday. However, due to challenging weather conditions and the rugged terrain, the search has been difficult.

“We haven’t completely stopped, but we have scaled back our efforts due to the weather and the terrain,” said Sgt. Sascha Banks of the Squamish RCMP.

Despite the challenges, the search teams remain determined to find Bagnall and Kermond. They have been using helicopters, drones, and ground searchers to cover the area where the climbers were last seen.

“We are doing everything we can to locate these two individuals and bring them home safely,” said Banks.

The families of the missing climbers have been notified and are receiving support from the authorities. They have also been providing valuable information to the search teams, which has been crucial in narrowing down the search area.

The Squamish RCMP is asking anyone with information about the whereabouts of Bagnall and Kermond to come forward. They are also reminding the public to be cautious when engaging in outdoor activities and to always be prepared for unexpected situations.

As the search continues, the community is coming together to show support for the missing climbers and their families. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help with the search efforts and to support the families during this difficult time.

The search for Bagnall and Kermond is ongoing, and the authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Squamish RCMP immediately.
