Calgary Flames round out coaching staff, adding Brad Larsen as assistant

The Calgary Flames have announced the addition of Brad Larsen to their coaching staff as an assistant coach. Larsen, a former NHL player, brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the team.

Larsen, 43, spent the last seven seasons as an assistant coach with the Columbus Blue Jackets. During his time with the Blue Jackets, he helped lead the team to four playoff appearances and a franchise-record 108 points in the 2016-2017 season.

Flames’ general manager, Brad Treliving, expressed his excitement about Larsen joining the team, stating, “Brad is a highly respected coach in the league and we are thrilled to have him join our staff. His experience and expertise will be a valuable asset to our team as we continue to strive for success.”

Larsen’s playing career spanned over 15 years, including stints with the Colorado Avalanche, Atlanta Thrashers, and Ottawa Senators. He retired in 2010 and immediately transitioned into coaching, starting as an assistant coach with the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League.

Larsen’s addition to the Flames’ coaching staff completes the team’s search for a new assistant coach, following the departure of Ryan Huska earlier this month. He joins head coach Darryl Sutter and assistant coach Kirk Muller, who were both hired in March.

The Flames are hoping that Larsen’s experience and fresh perspective will help the team improve upon their performance from last season. The team finished fourth in the North Division and were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the Winnipeg Jets.

Larsen’s appointment comes at a crucial time for the Flames, as they look to make a strong comeback in the upcoming season. With his proven track record and dedication to the game, Larsen is sure to make a positive impact on the team and help them reach their goals.

The Flames’ training camp is set to begin in September, and fans are eagerly anticipating the start of the new season with the addition of Larsen to the coaching staff. It remains to be seen how his presence will affect the team’s performance, but one thing is for sure – the Flames are determined to come back stronger than ever.
