A chaotic scene unfolded at a food court in Atlanta on Tuesday afternoon, as a shooting and bus hijacking left multiple people injured.
According to police, the incident began when a man opened fire inside the food court at the Cumberland Mall. Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots and seeing people running for cover.
As the chaos ensued, the suspect then attempted to hijack a bus outside of the mall. The bus driver was able to escape and call for help, but not before the suspect shot and injured a passenger.
Police arrived on the scene and were able to apprehend the suspect, who has been identified as 22-year-old Tavarius Malone. He has been charged with aggravated assault, hijacking a motor vehicle, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
In total, four people were injured in the incident, including the bus passenger who was shot and three others who sustained injuries while trying to flee the scene. All four victims were taken to the hospital and are expected to recover.
The motive for the shooting and hijacking is still under investigation, but police have stated that it appears to be a random act of violence.
The Cumberland Mall was placed on lockdown following the incident, but has since reopened. The food court, however, remains closed as police continue their investigation.
This incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing issue of gun violence in the United States and the need for stricter gun control measures. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families during this difficult time.
