An attempted robbery on the University of British Columbia (UBC) campus has left one victim hospitalized.
According to UBC Campus Security, the incident occurred on Tuesday evening near the intersection of University Boulevard and East Mall. The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, was approached by a suspect who demanded their belongings.
The victim refused to comply and a physical altercation ensued. The suspect then fled the scene on foot, leaving the victim with non-life-threatening injuries.
The UBC RCMP were immediately notified and arrived on the scene to conduct an investigation. They have described the suspect as a Caucasian male in his early 20s, approximately 5’10” tall with a slim build. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie and dark pants.
The victim was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment and is expected to make a full recovery.
UBC Campus Security is reminding students and staff to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity on campus. They are also encouraging anyone with information about the incident to come forward and contact the UBC RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
