Kelowna Art Gallery to Host Monthly Event for People 50 and Over
The Kelowna Art Gallery is excited to announce a new monthly event specifically designed for individuals aged 50 and over. This event aims to provide a welcoming and inclusive space for this demographic to engage with art and connect with others who share similar interests.
The event, titled “Art for the Ages,” will take place on the first Wednesday of every month from 2-4pm at the Kelowna Art Gallery. It will feature a variety of activities, including guided tours of current exhibitions, hands-on art workshops, and socializing opportunities.
According to Nataley Nagy, the Kelowna Art Gallery’s Executive Director, the idea for this event came from a desire to better serve the needs and interests of the 50+ community in Kelowna. “We noticed that this demographic was underrepresented in our programming and wanted to create a space where they could feel comfortable and engaged,” Nagy explains.
The Kelowna Art Gallery has partnered with local organizations, such as the Kelowna Seniors Society and the Okanagan Institute for Biodiversity, Resilience, and Society, to help promote and plan the event. These partnerships will also allow for a diverse range of activities and topics to be explored at each monthly gathering.
“We are thrilled to have the support of these organizations and are looking forward to collaborating with them to create meaningful and enriching experiences for our attendees,” says Nagy.
The first “Art for the Ages” event will take place on Wednesday, September 1st, and will feature a guided tour of the current exhibition, “The Art of the Book: Kelowna Book Arts Collective.” Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the art of bookmaking and even create their own mini-book to take home.
Tickets for the event are $10 for Kelowna Art Gallery members and $15 for non-members. They can be purchased online or at the door on the day of the event.
The Kelowna Art Gallery is committed to providing accessible and inclusive programming for all members of the community. “Art for the Ages” is just one of the many initiatives the gallery has implemented to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to engage with and appreciate art.
