A teenager from Montreal’s South Shore has been charged with sexual assault and extortion involving minors, according to police.
The 17-year-old, who cannot be named due to their age, was arrested on Tuesday and appeared in court on Wednesday to face charges of sexual assault, extortion, and possession of child pornography.
The investigation began in March when a 14-year-old girl reported that she had been sexually assaulted by the accused. Police say the victim was also allegedly extorted for money and forced to send explicit photos.
As the investigation continued, two more victims, both under the age of 16, came forward with similar allegations against the accused.
Police say the accused used social media to target and manipulate the victims, gaining their trust before exploiting them.
The accused has been released on bail with several conditions, including not contacting the victims or using social media. They are also prohibited from being in the presence of minors without adult supervision.
Authorities are urging anyone with information or who may have been a victim to come forward and speak to investigators.
This case serves as a reminder for parents and guardians to monitor their children’s online activities and educate them about the dangers of interacting with strangers on social media.
The accused is scheduled to appear in court again on June 9. If convicted, they could face serious consequences, including a criminal record and potential jail time.
Police are also reminding the public that sexual exploitation of minors is a serious crime and will be investigated thoroughly. They are urging anyone who may have been a victim or has information about this case to contact them immediately.
