Just an hour later, at 7:30 pm, firefighters were called to a second house fire on the 100 block of Isabel Street. This time, the fire had spread to a neighboring home, causing significant damage. Fortunately, all occupants were able to evacuate safely.
The third call came in at 10:30 pm, with crews responding to a fire at a commercial building on the 100 block of Keewatin Street. The blaze was contained to the building’s exterior, and no injuries were reported.
The final call of the night came in at 6:00 am on Sunday, with firefighters responding to a fire at a multi-family residence on the 100 block of Isabel Street. The fire was contained to one unit, and all occupants were able to evacuate safely.
Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) Chief John Lane commended the efforts of the firefighters, stating, “Our crews did an exceptional job in responding to these four fires in such a short period of time. Their quick and efficient actions helped prevent further damage and ensured the safety of all involved.”
The cause of each fire is currently under investigation, and the WFPS is reminding the public to always practice fire safety measures, such as having working smoke alarms and creating a fire escape plan.
This string of fires serves as a reminder of the bravery and dedication of Winnipeg’s firefighters, who put their lives on the line to protect the community. Their tireless efforts and quick response time are a testament to their training and commitment to keeping the city safe.
