The Montreal Canadiens have made a significant addition to their roster, signing forward Alex Barre-Boulet to a one-year, two-way contract.
Barre-Boulet, 24, has spent the past three seasons with the Tampa Bay Lightning organization, primarily playing for their AHL affiliate, the Syracuse Crunch. In the 2020-2021 season, he recorded 15 goals and 13 assists in 28 games, earning him the AHL’s Most Valuable Player award.
The 5-foot-10, 185-pound forward was originally signed by the Lightning as an undrafted free agent in 2018. He has since proven himself as a skilled and versatile player, with a total of 83 goals and 85 assists in 184 AHL games.
Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin expressed his excitement about the signing, stating that Barre-Boulet’s offensive abilities and strong work ethic make him a valuable addition to the team.
Barre-Boulet is expected to compete for a spot on the Canadiens’ roster during training camp, which is set to begin on September 22. If he does not make the team, he will likely start the season with the Laval Rocket, the Canadiens’ AHL affiliate.
This signing comes as the Canadiens continue to make moves to strengthen their roster for the upcoming season. They recently acquired veteran defenseman David Savard and signed forward Mike Hoffman to a three-year contract.
Fans are eagerly anticipating the start of the season, with the Canadiens looking to build on their success from last year’s playoff run, where they made it to the Stanley Cup Final.
Barre-Boulet’s signing adds depth and talent to the Canadiens’ lineup, and it will be exciting to see how he contributes to the team’s success in the upcoming season.
