Brantford native Brandon Montour has just signed a major deal with the Seattle Kraken, making him one of the highest-paid defensemen in the National Hockey League (NHL).
The 27-year-old defenseman has agreed to a three-year contract worth $12.5 million with the Kraken, who are set to begin their inaugural season in the NHL this fall.
Montour, who was drafted by the Anaheim Ducks in 2014, has played for three different teams in his six-year NHL career. He spent the majority of his career with the Buffalo Sabres before being traded to the Florida Panthers in April of this year.
Despite being traded twice in one season, Montour has proven himself to be a valuable player on the ice. He has recorded 29 goals and 76 assists in 281 career games, and has also represented Team Canada at the World Junior Championships and the World Championships.
