A man has been hospitalized after a fire broke out in a high-rise building in downtown Toronto.
According to Toronto Fire Services, the fire started on the 12th floor of the building located at 123 Main Street. Firefighters were called to the scene at approximately 10:30 am on Tuesday.
Upon arrival, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from a unit on the 12th floor. The fire was quickly brought under control and contained to the one unit.
One man was found inside the unit and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. His condition is currently unknown.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but officials say it appears to have started in the kitchen of the unit. The extent of the damage is also being assessed.
Residents of the building were temporarily evacuated as a precaution, but have since been allowed to return to their homes.
Toronto Fire Services is reminding the public to always have working smoke alarms in their homes and to never leave cooking unattended.
