Chatham-Kent Doctors Step Up to Serve Patients with No Family Doctor

In the midst of a growing shortage of family doctors in Chatham-Kent, a group of dedicated physicians have stepped up to ensure that patients without a family doctor are still able to receive quality healthcare.

According to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, there are currently over 10,000 residents in the region who do not have a family doctor. This has led to long wait times for appointments and limited access to primary care for many individuals and families.

In response to this pressing issue, a group of doctors from the Chatham-Kent Family Health Team have taken on additional patients who do not have a family doctor. This team, which includes 12 physicians, has opened up their schedules to accommodate these patients and provide them with much-needed medical care.

Dr. David Colby, the Medical Officer of Health for Chatham-Kent, commended the efforts of these doctors, stating that their dedication and compassion for their patients is truly admirable. He also emphasized the importance of having a family doctor, as they play a crucial role in preventative care and managing chronic conditions.

The Chatham-Kent Family Health Team has also implemented a new system to help match patients with a family doctor. Through this system, patients can register online and provide their medical history and preferences, which will then be used to match them with a suitable doctor.

This initiative has been met with positive feedback from both patients and doctors. Patients who have been matched with a family doctor through this system have expressed their gratitude for finally having access to primary care, while doctors have found it rewarding to be able to help those in need.

The Chatham-Kent Family Health Team is also working towards recruiting more family doctors to the region, in hopes of reducing the number of residents without a family doctor.

In the meantime, the dedication and efforts of these doctors in serving patients without a family doctor is truly commendable. Their selflessness and commitment to providing quality healthcare to all residents of Chatham-Kent is a testament to the importance of having a strong and supportive healthcare system.
