Manitoba to Host Public Meeting to Address Intersection Safety Upgrades After Fatal Accident
The province of Manitoba has announced plans to hold an open house to discuss potential safety improvements at a busy intersection following a tragic crash that claimed the lives of two individuals.
The open house, set to take place on March 15th, will provide an opportunity for community members to voice their concerns and suggestions for improving safety at the intersection of Highway 1 and Highway 10, near the town of Brandon.
The decision to hold the open house comes after a fatal accident occurred at the intersection on February 28th, resulting in the deaths of a 25-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman. The two victims were travelling in a vehicle that collided with a semi-truck at the intersection.
In response to the tragedy, the Manitoba government has committed to reviewing the safety measures at the intersection and considering potential upgrades to prevent future accidents.
According to Infrastructure Minister Ron Schuler, the open house will provide an opportunity for the public to share their thoughts and concerns about the intersection and potential safety improvements.
“We want to hear from the community about their experiences and ideas for improving safety at this intersection,” Schuler stated in a press release. “We are committed to working with the community to find solutions that will make this intersection safer for all who use it.”
The open house will be held virtually due to COVID-19 restrictions, and community members can participate by registering online or by phone. The province has also set up an online survey for those who are unable to attend the open house but still wish to provide feedback.
In addition to the open house, the province has also committed to conducting a thorough review of the intersection, including a traffic study and consultation with local authorities and stakeholders.
