Montreal Liberal MP Anthony Housefather has been appointed to a new role as an adviser on antisemitism, announced by the federal government on Tuesday.
Housefather, who has been a member of Parliament since 2015, will serve as the Special Advisor on Antisemitism to the Minister of Canadian Heritage, Steven Guilbeault.
In a statement, Guilbeault said that Housefather’s experience and expertise make him the perfect candidate for this important role.
“Mr. Housefather has been a strong advocate for the Jewish community and has a deep understanding of the issues surrounding antisemitism,” said Guilbeault.
The role of Special Advisor on Antisemitism was created in response to the recent rise in antisemitic incidents in Canada and around the world. The government hopes that Housefather’s appointment will help combat this issue and promote a more inclusive and tolerant society.
