A serious crash on Lagimodiere Boulevard in Winnipeg has left one person in critical condition and caused major traffic delays on Wednesday evening.
According to the Winnipeg Police Service, the collision occurred around 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of Lagimodiere and Regent Avenue. The crash involved two vehicles, a car and a pickup truck.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene and found one person trapped inside the car. They were extricated and transported to the hospital in critical condition.
The driver of the pickup truck sustained minor injuries and was also taken to the hospital for treatment.
The intersection was closed for several hours as police investigated the crash and cleared the scene. Traffic was diverted and drivers were advised to avoid the area.
The cause of the collision is still under investigation, but police have confirmed that alcohol and speed are not considered factors.
This is not the first serious crash to occur on Lagimodiere Boulevard. In 2020, there were 1,200 collisions on this stretch of road, resulting in 300 injuries and four fatalities.
The Winnipeg Police Service is reminding drivers to always obey traffic laws and drive safely to prevent these types of incidents.
