Brandon teen charged with impaired driving, car theft

A 19-year-old from Brandon has been charged with impaired driving and car theft after a series of events on Sunday evening.

According to police, the teenager was first spotted driving erratically on the Trans-Canada Highway near Brandon. Officers attempted to pull him over, but he refused to stop and continued driving at high speeds.

The suspect eventually crashed the stolen vehicle into a ditch and fled on foot. He was later apprehended by police and taken into custody.

Upon further investigation, it was determined that the teenager was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. He has been charged with impaired driving, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and possession of stolen property.

This is not the first time the teenager has been in trouble with the law. He was previously charged with theft and possession of stolen property in December 2020.

The Brandon Police Service is reminding the public of the dangers of impaired driving and the importance of reporting any suspicious or erratic driving behavior.

The suspect is scheduled to appear in court on May 31.
