An Edmonton hiker has been reported missing in Kananaskis Country, according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).
The hiker, identified as 32-year-old Sarah Johnson, was last seen on Saturday morning at the trailhead of the popular Mount Yamnuska hike. She was reported missing by her family when she failed to return home that evening.
RCMP and Kananaskis Emergency Services immediately launched a search and rescue operation, utilizing helicopters and ground teams to comb the area. However, as of Sunday evening, Johnson has not been located.
According to RCMP, Johnson is an experienced hiker and was well-prepared for her hike. She was carrying appropriate gear and supplies, including a GPS device and a satellite phone. However, her phone has not been used since Saturday morning.
Johnson is described as 5’6″ tall, with a slim build and long brown hair. She was last seen wearing a red jacket, black leggings, and hiking boots.
RCMP is asking anyone who may have seen Johnson on Saturday or has any information on her whereabouts to contact them immediately. They are also reminding hikers to always be prepared and to inform someone of their hiking plans before heading out.
The search for Johnson will continue on Monday, with additional resources being brought in to assist in the operation. RCMP is urging anyone in the area to keep an eye out for Johnson and to report any sightings to them.
Our thoughts are with Johnson’s family and friends during this difficult time, and we will continue to provide updates on the search as they become available.
